A fee rise was announced but is not law yet
On 12 August 2026 the Director General of Immigration announced a planned VOA increase to Rp 750,000 if applied for electronically before travel, or Rp 1,000,000 at the counter on arrival. As at late August 2026 no implementing regulation has been issued, no effective date given, and the official e-visa portal still shows Rp 500,000. Changing it requires a new Government Regulation. Treat the increase as coming, not current.
Overstay: Rp 1,000,000 per day, and a hard cliff at 60
The fine is Rp 1,000,000 for each day beyond your permit, charged from day one.
At 60 days or more it stops being a money problem. It becomes detention, deportation and a re-entry ban. And the ban got much longer: under UU No. 63/2024 it is now up to 10 years, extendable by a further 10. The old rule was six months at a time.
There is also a figure almost nobody mentions: lifting a blacklist imposed for a long overstay or unpaid fine costs Rp 90,000,000 per application.
Visa-free entry, and who does not get it
Indonesia cut its visa-free list sharply. The baseline is 13 countries, mostly ASEAN plus Hong Kong, Suriname and Colombia. In July 2026 six more were added: Türkiye, Brazil, Peru, Kazakhstan, Macau and Belarus, bringing it to 19.
The UK, US, Australia, most of the EU, Canada, Japan, Korea, China, India and Russia are not on the list. Those nationalities use VOA, e-VOA or a C1. Visa-free entry, where it applies, is 30 days and is not extendable and not convertible.
Official fee vs what agents charge
The gap is often 2 to 5 times, and that is not necessarily unreasonable, since agents handle paperwork, sponsorship and office visits. But you should know which part is tax and which is service.

Two other costs to budget for
The Bali tourist levy: Rp 150,000 per foreign visitor, paid once per entry to Bali, cashless only through the official Love Bali portal. It is unchanged since 2024. There is no monetary fine for not paying, but you can be refused service at tourist attractions.
The All Indonesia app is mandatory and free. Since October 2025 every arriving traveller files immigration, customs and health declarations through it. Sites charging a “processing fee” for it are scams.
